My guest today is Linda Huber, who writes chillers under her own name, and feel-good fiction as Melinda Huber. Linda’s a very supportive and generous author, so it’s a pleasure to welcome her to the blog today to share with us her five photos. Welcome, Linda.

Big thanks, Sharon, for the chance to show my photos, though like a lot of people I had a really hard job choosing just five.

First of all, a nod to my teenage self in the form of a Highland Cow. Back in the day, I spent my summers with friends, on the lovely Isle of Arran in Scotland – it was a bit of a culture shock in comparison to my home in downtown Glasgow. On Arran, we had cows right next door… I have to confess I didn’t take this pic myself – I’d have been scared to get that close!

From my childhood second home we move to my current home – a little town on the banks of Lake Constance in Switzerland. Arbon is about halfway along the left-hand bank. Constance is the second largest lake in Switzerland, after Lake Geneva, and I’ve lived here for way longer than I lived in Scotland. It’s a very different kind of scenery to Scotland – less rugged, but every bit as beautiful. (And it’s the setting for my feel-good novellas, too. Just sayin’…)

Maroni the Newfoundlander belonged to the neighbours of over a decade ago. That’s our driveway he’s lying on – a sunnier spot than his own driveway, and as he was expert at escaping from his garden, he spent quite a lot of time there. A wee bit awkward when you wanted to drive in or out, but he was such a lovely, gentle giant we always forgave him! Maroni is German for chestnut – you can see why that’s his name!

It’s more than my life’s worth to put photos of my children or other family members online, but this one is okay. Granny was born just before the turn of the last century, and she grew up in Edinburgh before moving to Glasgow. And apart from one trip to London, that was the extent of her travels. I often wonder what she’d have made of me, living in Switzerland…

Lastly, my woods. Just metres from my flat, they’re where I go when I’m in need of inspiration, or when I’m sad or upset or just tired. It never fails. My office room looks out over them – in winter, when the trees are bare, I can see the lake flickering through the branches, and on a clear day, Germany on the other side. But often the best view is when you’re down there in the middle of it all, looking up. Peace…

Thank you so much for sharing your photos with me, Linda. Oh, boy, is that dog beautiful! And I adore Highland cows. I would love to have a photograph of either of my grandmas at that age but, sadly, I don’t. Fascinating stuff!

Linda grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, but went to work in Switzerland for a year aged twenty-two, and has lived there ever since. Her day jobs have included working as a physiotherapist in hospitals and schools for handicapped children, and teaching English in a medieval castle.
Her writing career began in the nineties, and since then she’s had seven psychological suspense novels published, plus a collection of feel-good short stories.
Her latest project is the Lakeside Hotel novellas, written under her pen name Melinda Huber and set on the banks of Lake Constance, just minutes from her home in north-east Switzerland. She really appreciates having the views enjoyed by her characters right on her own doorstep!

A Lake in Switzerland

Stacy can’t believe her luck when her best friend Emily invites her on a holiday to Switzerland.
She arrives at the Lakeside Hotel with high hopes, but the problems begin straightaway. Emily’s recent injury doesn’t let her do much, and something is wrong at the hotel. Where are all the guests? Why is the owner’s son so bad-tempered? And then there’s the odd behaviour of Stacy’s fiancé, back home. It’s hard to enjoy the scenery with all this going on…

A Spa in Switzerland

Stacy is ready to work hard in Switzerland, but nothing about her new job at the Lakeside Hotel is easy.
Some people are hostile, and there’s the language problem, too – Stacy’s sense of humour is tested every day. When her friend Emily visits, they take a trip to the Ticino, but the snow comes on the way home, and a terrible accident changes everything.
