On the face of it, it sounds like a lot of fun. Write twenty-six blog posts during the month of April, with a chance to rest each Sunday – and, just to make it a teensy bit more difficult, blog themes must be alphabetical. So, for instance, on April 1st, you could blog about Adam Ant, apples, or astronomy. On April 12th you might choose love, lavender, or Lorna Doone to write about. Easy! Right?
I was intrigued enough to check out the A-Z Challenge blog, which you can find here. It suggests that you make a list of all your forthcoming subjects, and the author says that it took him/her less than an hour to come up with a complete list! That’s when my optimism started to fade.
I sat down with a pen and paper and wrote out the alphabet, then tried to add an appropriate subject for each letter. Yikes! My mind went completely blank. It was ridiculous. I mean, how hard can it be to think of a word beginning with ‘A’, for goodness’ sake? Surprisingly, when you’re on the spot, it’s amazingly difficult. You should have seen me when I got to ‘X’!
I almost dismissed the idea entirely, but then I reconsidered. After all, could it be any harder than completing NaNoWriMo? And I did that, twice. Surely, writing a short post each day couldn’t be as difficult as trying to complete a novel in thirty days, could it? And, at least with this challenge, you get your Sundays off.
I’m now seriously considering signing up for the A-Z Challenge here. I think it would be a good way to get the brain cells firing up again, and to force myself to write something every day – even if it’s only a hundred words or so, some days.
What about you? Do you fancy a challenge? You have a few weeks to make up your mind – and sort out a list! I dare you!
Have a good week xx
